Hello, Noynoy.

Philippines just had its first ever automated election this year, which, unfortunately, was tainted with countless conspiracy theories and failure of a good number of the PCOS machines that were used. Nevertheless, the said country, surprisingly, was able to pull through, and the Filipinos were able to elect a deserving president to govern--- wait, did I use the right adjective?

Noynoy Aquino's victory was clear, even in the first partial results for the 2010 elections. Now blessed with 13,842,018 votes from the populace, followed by Joseph Estrada with 8,758,675 votes; he was certainly winning. Several of Aquino's rivals for the presidential seat even conceded defeat. Truly, the Seat awaits Noynoy.

But before the people go apeshit in celebrating Noynoy's victory, I hope they stop first to think (although that's unlikely, but there's no harm in hoping); can he really do it? Is he really ready to take the responsibility of keeping Philippines alive? Well, in my humble opinion (which is quite close to the truth), I don't think so. Of course, even if I explicitly state the reasons for thinking this way, some Filipinos are extremely close-minded and will either completely ignore my statements, or criticize me. Nonetheless, I shall continue this article; they're not the only readers anyway (assuming that they will read this, and assuming someone else will read this).

Reason 1: He was horrible during his years as a legislator.

I do not mean that he made cruel laws that oppressed the people and antagonized human rights. But he was a horrible legislator all the same, and that would be because he was able to make absolutely no laws. He "worked" as a legislator for twelve years, and not a single law has been passed. One is right in a sense if he is to say that the Senate, the Congress, and even the Barangay Hall serve as a training ground for any person if he wishes to attain higher positions in the government. With this said, if Aquino can't make a single law when he was a legislator, can he do worse now he's about to sit at the presidential seat? It is logical in politics, or practically any aspect of life, that if one sucks at level one, then he won't be any better at the higher levels. I hope my logic fails, because, judging by the current state of the Philippines, we can't afford enduring a 6-year dose of incompetence.

Reason 2: He antagonizes people in the government.

There's strength in numbers; this is true. It is true, therefore, that if one wishes to be in the government, he must establish a good relationship with people in the government. Noynoy didn't do this. Instead, he mocked those who go against him and called them names. Yeah, way to go, warrior. By doing this, by blindly attacking people who is against you just because you're pissed off or to show off your authority, one just opens himself to more attacks, and worst of all, treason. By antagonizing everyone, one invites people to conspire against him, and it will bring forth his destruction.

Also, what Noynoy seems to fail to see is that there's a "friend" in every enemy. And in certain circumstances, you can bring that "friend" out and bring that enemy to your side. As what Lincoln said, the best way to destroy an enemy is to make him your friend. With the right timing and strategy, one can have the best of both worlds at politics; no threats and more allies.

The thing is this; one cannot rule a territory alone. He will inevitably need subordinates, subjects. And if one desires his subjects' loyalty and efficiency, it is only logical that he make good relationships with them first. And since Noynoy doesn't seem to do this, heck, he even insisted that he'll rather vow to a Barangay captain than to an official appointed by Arroyo, the previous president, well, good luck with him and those people that will work under him. And Noynoy, you really need some lessons about manners. Using a "people power" as a threat to ensure your victory just proves how arrogant you are.

Reason 3: He can't even handle his personal affairs properly.

Let's proceed to discussing about a certain place whose issues plague Noynoy the most; Hacienda Luisita. Hacienda Luisita is, well, a hacienda, with farmers working at it, and Noynoy owns a portion of the said hacienda. A very controversial incident is when a massacre occurred at Hacienda Luisita, where the farmers were the victims. It is human instinct that the families of the victims plead to the one who has cultivated a good image to society, thanks to his mom and dad; Noynoy!

Unfortunately, Noynoy did absolutely nothing to settle the issue at Hacienda Luisita, leaving the farmers endlessly pleading to have what's rightfully theirs. That was when he's not yet running for president. Now that he's inches away from the presidential seat, he now promises that he'll "think about fixing" the issue, if the people will elect him as president. Uh, yay?

I mean, what was that? Are we supposed to be happy with what you promised? For a guy who gains benefits from the hardworking farmers, it's your obligation to fix the matter, even if you're not the president. Demanding that people should vote you first before "thinking about fixing" the issue at Hacienda Luisita is a being unfair and opportunistic, and those attitudes are very un-president-ly.

Noynoy, if you can't handle even your personal problems properly, can we still expect that you'll be able to handle the most vital issues our country is facing as president? Heck, you don't even have your own house!

Reason 4: If Cory Aquino didn't die, Noynoy wouldn't even run in the first place.

Corazon Aquino is Noynoy's mother and a former president of the Philippines. She was a famous icon of democracy in the said country, together with her husband, Benigno Aquino Jr. Naturally, her death will induce intense sadness and sympathy from the Filipinos. For some reason, Noynoy saw this as an opportunity, and suddenly ran for president. Notice how sudden was his decision, and how shallow his reason for running. No matter what reason Noynoy gives, I'll always know that he simply used his mother's popularity to his advantage, and ran for president. With these said, I can safely conclude that Noynoy is certainly not ready.

In spite all of these disheartening issues about Noynoy, somehow, I still try to be optimistic, because of the simple reason that I have no choice. What's done is done; the people have elected Noynoy as president, and I can't do anything but cross my fingers that Noynoy will pull through.

A sincere "good luck" to you Noynoy, and to the Philippines as well.
